Fiber Communication Framework

A resident-centered proposal to clarify responsibility and improve communication before fiber construction begins.

The challenge

Residents need reliable information about construction, property concerns, and who to contact. When responsibilities are unclear, even routine questions become frustrating.

My approach

Mapped the resident, road commission, and contractor relationship; reviewed public information and communication gaps; and proposed a consistent starting point for residents.

The proposed solution

A centralized communication framework supported by advance door hangers, clear company and supervisor contact details, and communication expectations within the permitting process. Proposed notice: 48–72 hours before work.

How success would be assessed

Track misdirected inquiries, response clarity, and recurring resident questions. This is a proposed framework; implementation results have not been established.

The opportunity

Make conservation relevant to the families and community who enjoy the river landscape.

My contribution

Created visual identity concepts and educational storytelling; participated in a volunteer shoreline stabilization effort with watershed and nonprofit partners; and documented shoreline conditions.

Connecting place and story

The River Journal Rule extends the project’s educational purpose through a children’s story about Michigan’s outdoors. The work brings together observation, visual communication, and community stewardship.

03 / The perspective behind the work

Where strategy meets human understanding.

My experience spans emergency medical dispatch, team leadership, public-sector operations, and creative communication. These roles have taught me to look closely at how systems affect the people who depend on them.

As a Field Training Officer and supervisor, I trained employees and supervised teams of approximately 5–10. Today, my road commission work includes public communication, resident and contractor coordination, records, and support for permitting and engineering.

I’m building on that experience through business education and a growing focus on human-centered design.
